Julia Campbell

It saddened me to know that the American Peace Corp Julia Campbell was bludgeoned to death while on a tour to Ifugao. What a waste and what a shame! Again, Manila reached the headlines for this tragedy. I visited Julia's blog and I was moved that she was able to immerse herself into the Filipino culture. A woman who was determined to be of service, to give something of herself in exchange for nothing. In her journals, you can see her sincere desire to uplift the lives of the Filipino families, especially the children.

I salute you, Ms. Julia, for choosing a life well out of your comfort zone. Your life in this world may have been short but you will be missed especially by the lives you have touched.

It is very unfortunate that a very kind woman who has left a comfortable life in the US to extend her help to the poor in the Philippine has been mercilessly murdered. I condemn in the strongest way possible this very brutal act to a very fine, wonderful and unselfish lady. She richly deserves our thanks for what she has done for the Filipinos.

I do not agree with the statement of our Justice Secretary that she was careless and irresponsible. She does not deserve such a statement. In behalf of the filipinos who share my sentiment, I apologize to Julia's family for what has been said.

Our condolences to Julia's family. We share your grief, pain and anger.

Having felt very sad after learning from the news reports of the surrender of Julia's killer, and that she appears to be a lady at the wrong place and at the wrong time, justice must be served and applied. The force of the law shall take its rightful course and punish the man who did the barbaric act on an innocent and helpless lady.

Again, our sincerest condolences to Julia's grieving family. We thank her and the others like her who are lending their time to provide help to the Filipinos.

Hopefully, what happened will not deter our friends from the US and other countries abroad from coming over here and visit or stay in our beautiful homeland. What happened was an isolated incident and I believe it does not fully reflect our genuine hospitality and desire to engage with our friends.
